Races
Arizona Monster 300
Patagonia to Superior. Three hundred miles of Sonoran desert. One hundred fifty hours. Nineteen aid stations.
The mountain
Point to point through southern Arizona. Subtropical winter warmth and two rain seasons, which is why the Sonoran looks like it does. Two hundred fifty-nine miles of single-track. Thirty-four of bike path. A little pavement, a little dirt road. High mountains in the desert. Forty-one thousand feet of gain.
The work
A week on your feet. Nineteen aid stations. Heat can still show in March. Nights go cold in the high basins. You train consecutive days, cactus, and a sleep plan that survives one hundred fifty hours.
Race morning
Patagonia. Finish in Superior. Payment plan on UltraSignup if you need it. National Forest. Carry more water than the valley suggested.
Watch outs
Cholla. Sun. Getting greedy on the bike path miles. The high country in a desert race that people booked as flat in their heads.
