Races
Bigfoot 200
Marble Mountain toward Randle. St. Helens, lava, old growth. Two hundred miles through the Cascades.
The mountain
Point to point in the Washington Cascades. Mount St. Helens. Lava. Ridge. Old growth as thick as rain forest. Streams. Two hundred point one miles. Forty-four thousand eighty-two feet of gain. Forty-five thousand five hundred sixty-three of loss. This is the steep Destination Trail.
The work
Technical footing and a lot of it. Twelve aid stations. Five sleep stations. You train wet, volcanic rock, and nights that feel like December in August. Lottery entry.
Race morning
Read the runner manual. The official course block does not list a cutoff. Do not invent one. Carry what the Cascades ask. The map is not a desert loop.
Watch outs
Lava fields chew shoes. Mist on the ridges. Getting cute with sleep. Streams that look small until they are not.
