The Course
Point-to-point from Volcano area to Kailua-Kona on 100 percent pavement. Five thousand feet gain, nine thousand feet loss. Rolling hills through Hawaii Island farm and coastal roads. Separate from the 260-mile Hilo loop course.
The Work
Road ultra pacing in heat and humidity. Net downhill but not easy. Self-supported logistics across the island. Prior 100-mile finish within 24 months recommended.
Kit
Road shoes. Full crew vehicle with island drop bags. Sun protection. Hydration for long stretches without services.
Race Day
Firm 48-hour cutoff. Finish at 48:01 is not official. Cooper Center Volcano start 6:00 am December 31. Proceeds benefit Hawaii Wildlife Fund.
