Races
Mogollon Monster
The Rim six times out of Pine. Highline, Myrtle, Promontory. Grades that hit thirty to forty-five percent. Thirty-eight hours.
The mountain
Two-Sixty trailhead. The Mogollon Rim is a two-thousand-foot wall that runs two hundred miles. You climb it in six places. High Sonoran at five thousand three hundred. Ponderosa on top near eight thousand. Highline is rocky and tucked under the cliff. Myrtle is a short, steep punch through grass. Promontory is on the early miles. Never below five thousand two hundred. Never above eight thousand. Rugged is the point.
The work
You need a fifty miler or more to enter. Poles help on thirty-to-forty-five percent grades. Train rock, heat, and night navigation in tall grass. Volunteer hours are required for the hundred. Hardrock qualifier. Western States qualifier starting 2026.
Race morning
Six a.m. Saturday. Thirty-eight hours. Crew and drop bags at published points. Pine is small. The finish is the community center. You will see the Rim from below more times than you want.
Watch outs
Myrtle in the heat. Highline at night when the grass hides the markers. Descents that trash quads because the top of the Rim is the easy part. September monsoon leftover, or just sun.
