The Course
Out-and-back on historic Pony Express Trail from Lookout Campground west of Faust. Fifty-eight point two miles to Fish Springs National Wildlife Refuge, return to Simpson Springs corral. One hundred percent dirt road. About 3,000 feet gain, 4,000 loss. Starting elevation 5,702 feet.
The Work
Desert road pacing. Crew mandatory for water and food in remote country. Flat enough for PRs if heat cooperates. Staggered starts 5:00 to 6:30 am by assigned wave.
Kit
Sun protection. Road-trail shoes for graded dirt. Crew map required. GPS track recommended. Watch for wild horses and antelope.
Race Day
Fish Springs turnaround cutoff 10:00 pm. Dugway Topaz Well return by 6:00 am. Thirty-hour finish cutoff. Sixty-plus runners get 32 hours with 4:00 am early start.
