Course DNA
The Course
Prescott trails roll until they do not. The Granite Dells near Willow and Watson lakes are a slickrock maze. Short punchy climbs. Sharp turns. White dots on the granite domes. You never settle. High-desert ridges cool fast when the sun drops. Low 5,000 feet. High 7,500. Trail 80 percent, jeep 18, paved 2.
The Work
Micro-eccentric damage. Climb. Drop. Climb again. Quads and calves never get a clean stretch of rhythm. The slickrock asks for focus when you are already cooked. Eccentric strength. Focus under fatigue.
Kit
Cushioned trail shoes with a rock plate. The volcanic rock will find your metatarsals. Sticky rubber for the granite domes. A light wind jacket for the ridge temperature drop.
Race Day
Hold the first half. The Prescott rollers will invite a pace you cannot keep. Save the legs for the Dells. Crew access is easy in the parks around Prescott. Watson. Warm layers for the high-desert night. Sweet and salty both. Short stops. Then go.
