Course DNA
The Course
Valais from thermal Brigerbad to Le Bouveret on Lake Geneva. Belalp and Bettmeralp open the high route. Fiesch is the first life base at km 51. The course threads Binn, Lengritz, and Eisten before Grimentz at km 172. Col de Torrent at 2,916 meters is the high point near Evolène. Thyon 2000, Salvan, and Morgins are formal life bases with drop bags and crew. The final push crosses Morgins, Torgon, Taney, and the Rhône valley. Twenty-seven thousand meters of vert over nearly four hundred kilometers. This is a staged expedition with a cutoff clock.
The Work
Volume and durability over speed. Back-to-back days with 4,000 to 6,000 meters of vert. Pack-carrying hiking. Sleep-deprived night sections between life bases. Train feet and blister prevention as seriously as VO2. The winning time is around eighty-five hours. Most finishers are on the course for a week.
Kit
Full mountain kit for cold cols and warm valleys. Multiple shoe options if feet swell. Sleep system for life bases. Detailed blister kit. Calorie-dense food organized by life-base bag. Poles for the long Valais climbs.
Race Day
Race the life-base barriers, not the leader. Fiesch, Eisten, Grimentz, Thyon 2000, Salvan, and Morgins are sleep decisions. Short efficient stops. Dry feet. The Col de Torrent section hits mid-race when fatigue is cumulative. Crew on the permitted access roads saves hours. Taney to Le Bouveret feels short on paper. It is not.
