Course DNA
The Course
A loop on the Tahoe Rim Trail. Dusty granite singletrack. High exposed ridges. Tahoe City to Stephen's Pass sits thin and dry. Water is sparse. Sun is not. Long stretches above 8,000 feet. The night wind on those ridges is cold. Low 6,200 feet. High 9,700. Trail 75 percent, jeep 20, paved 5.
The Work
Hypoxic respiratory strain. The dry dust at altitude rakes lungs and throat. Sleep debt stacks across the nights. Back-to-back altitude volume. A plan for when the mind slips.
Kit
A filter flask for the Rim Trail streams. Salomon XA Filter or equal. Dusty-trail gaiters. Fine granite will fill a shoe. Windproof layers for the ridge nights.
Race Day
Sleep one to two hours on the first night. Even if you feel wired. Night three collects the debt. Hike the high climbs steady. Crew drives long around the lake. One vehicle. A sleep plan. Warm food. Foot care. Then you leave.
