The cruxThe Plunge to Lambs Canyon (mile 53) and Bear Halfway

Course DNA

The Course

Rugged mountain singletrack. Steep chutes. The Plunge is a dusty technical drop into Lambs Canyon at mile 53. Bear Halfway climbs straight out of it in the afternoon heat. High ridges to 10,400 feet. Low 4,800. Trail 75 percent, jeep 20, paved 5.

The Work

Steep Wasatch downhills load the quads. Eccentric damage stacks. Joints need to stay quiet under a pack. Train massive descent blocks. Single-leg strength. Core to carry the vest.

Kit

Bounce-free vest with front storage for salt and ginger. Altitude nausea is real. Durable shoes with grip for the dusty descents. Lightweight wind jacket for the high ridges.

Race Day

Protect the quads on the first 50. If they are shot at Lambs Canyon, the second half is a walk. Steady hiking on the steep climbs. The Plunge, then Bear Halfway in the heat. Lambs Canyon and Upper Big Cottonwood get crowded. Foot care. Shoe change. Warm food. Then leave.
