Course DNA
The Course
Sandy canyon bottoms out of Moab. Then rocky mountain trail in the La Sals. The first 40 miles run flat, paved, and sandy. After that you climb toward 10,500 feet. A 60-degree swing can land in less than a day. Desert heat. Then cold wind and possible snow. Low 4,000 feet. High 10,500. Trail 50 percent, jeep 40, paved 10.
The Work
Thermal stress. Heat, then freeze, while the feet swell and the structure fades. Back-to-back long days in mixed weather. A foot-care protocol you actually use.
Kit
A windproof insulated jacket for the La Sals. Packable down or synthetic. A neck gaiter for the red dust. Shoes 1.5 sizes larger for the second half. 240 desert miles will swell the foot.
Race Day
Take the first 40 easy. Hard sand and pavement will take plantar fascia and Achilles before the climbs. Hike the mountains. Low, steady. Crew needs a high-clearance vehicle and long desert drives. Warm food. Dry clothes. Foot care. A sleep schedule. Keep the stops tight.
Results
Moab finish lines.
Winner: Kilian Korth, 58:45:47.
